What is changing
NHS Supply Chain's September 2026 supplier webinar set out plans for earlier engagement ahead of tenders, including sharing scope and requirements, and in-person engagement potentially up to a year before a tender enters the market. A new procurement platform is targeted for identification by April 2027, with go-live planned for late summer 2027.
The opportunity this creates
Earlier engagement gives suppliers a genuine chance to shape requirements before they are fixed, rather than reacting to a finished specification. It also means the businesses that show up early, with clear capability evidence, have more influence over how a tender is ultimately scoped.
How to use the runway
With up to twelve months of visibility before some tenders launch, suppliers should treat this window as a relationship-building and evidence-gathering phase, not a waiting period. Cyber security readiness and social value evidence, both flagged in the September webinar, are worth having in order well before engagement begins.
